  This is so annoying, people love to exaggerate the dangers of Rio for views. I'm from London and trust me, Rio is an awesome place with wonderful weather and great, friendly people. Dangers exist, but no more so than in any other major city.

  I really hate when people first visit a country but really don’t know anything about it. I’ve been to carnival and I have been to visit just randomly several times. It’s just like America. Don’t go down dark alleys at night or anything that looks suspect. Treat everywhere like you would the USA. You literally can walk down Copacabana and Ipanema safely and have the time of your life. I’ve also walked through Faveles and even there you are protected because they drug lords do not want anything happening that will create attention to their operation. So please stop making Brazil look bad and dangerous. Brazil odd a very beautiful place with the most beautiful people in the world. 🇧🇷

  I went to Rio for a week over New Years and ended up staying for 2 months after meeting a Rio girl. I returned home completely wreaked and broke. Best ever times in my life.

  I hope he is seeing all the comments. He got the engagement he wanted, but denigrating the image of Brazil as many have been doing for many years, this time it didn't work

  Is every Canadian a wuss like this man? He arrives in a city where a street party brings together over 2 million people, from all over Brazil and the world, many completely drunk. Where else in the world would there be a place like this where there wouldn't be some fear, but all this paranoia? It would have been better not to have come or to come at a different time of year. I guarantee that Rio's tourist spots are safer than many other, even more famous, places in the world. He was lucky not to be robbed, but to not have run into a bunch of lunatics who destroyed all his filming equipment. He even said the Sambadromo grandstand was dangerous, it might be uncomfortable, but you'll only get mugged there if you want to.

  I got the chance to visit Brazil 2 months ago, for the first time in 31 years of my life as well. The only reason I hesitated to go before was because of all the online videos and discussions from other travelers and Brazilian friends living overseas advising me not to go alone and to be careful and all that. I decided to learn some Portuguese and then travel there with an open mind. From my experience, all I can say is that this was one of the best trips of my life after traveling to over 40 countries. It is one of the most beautiful country with the friendliest people and a way of life unlike anywhere. Yes, parts of Rio are dangerous as you mentioned, my phone even got robbed during the Lady Gaga concert (luckily I got it back) only because I was not paying attention and had it in my pocket but it doesn&apos;t take away the good of the city as the dangers and crimes are mostly localized to certain areas just like everywhere else. You just have to have fun but be aware of your surrounding, don&apos;t get involved in sketchy activities and do how the locals do. <br><br>I will however say that something happening to you depends on how you look (I&apos;m tanned / brown skin which im mistaken to being a local), what you&apos;re wearing, how careless you are with your belongings, who you&apos;re associating yourself with and which area you go at specific time of the day. <br><br>I definitely felt safer walking around the South Zone of Rio day and night, more than Los Angeles, Mexico City, Johannesburg, London, Brussels or Paris.<br><br>With all that said, I&apos;m looking forward to going back end of year for New Year and Carnival in February :)

  Went to Rio for New Years and it was amazing. I even visited some favelas. Locals treat you like family. Just be confident in your demeanor and mindful of your things. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re open to it, give it a try! I’m an anxious girly but love traveling and experiencing other cultures so much I don’t let it stop me. Don’t let fear keep you from enjoying your life! Carnaval intimidates me but I hope I can experience it one day. Great video!

  I was in Rio during the off season (June) I feel pretty safe in general, as an Asian that solotravel, walking at night, back from lapa around 3am, ofc sometimes I can feel some places are a little off. So if you want a calmer atmosphere come during the off season

  The reason why they say to keep the windows up is because someone might try to reach into your car and snatch your phone. This would in a worst case scenario result in you….just not having a phone. I wouldn’t really call that “danger” but to each their own.
