  49 seconds was all it took. 5 months gate didn&apos;t go up. Bollocks. They would have been out hunting. Fishing. Collecting greenery roots etc.

  They had storerooms of food, lots of firewood and fires burned 24x7. There were shutters or wind break inserts. There were wells. Everyone wore multiple layers of clothes. There were hunters. They had it worked out.

  Stone collects heat, and then radiates it at night. Without the doubt castles were drafty. But I’m sure they were prepared.

  The major mistake is to assume our ancestors were any more uncomfortable than we are today. One thousand years from now our descendants may wonder how we ever survived. Our reaction to our environment is in relation to our learned experience of the environment.

  I live in Minnesota and love the cold. Instead of freezing it&apos;s invigorating. Ankle deep in snow is a nuisance but a foot is something else. Cold keeps the jecks out and leaves decent space to live.

  I would build a movable light weight room, &nbsp;open at one end place at opening to fireplace and low 7 feet, &nbsp;20 feet by 10.
