I've been reluctant to expand my diet much as the last time I spoke to my stoma team they said to keep to the safe foods (root based veg, low fibre etc). While I'm supposed to have a temporary ileostomy, I'm now nearly 12 months in. About 3 months after I had surgery I had to spend a night in hospital due to severe stomach pain/cramping which finally led to being sick a few times. The cause was inclusive, either blockage or the meds I was taking which might have caused it or contributed towards a blockage. So because of that and what the stoma team said I've been very careful when selecting foods to eat, mostly keeping to the safe(bland) options, but then I see online that patients can usually retire to their normal-ish diet.<br>I do now eat some more risky foods but still afraid to try a nice fresh varied salad for example, or roasted potatoes with the skins on, and other veg like peppers without trying to peel. And things like Dates, dried fruit.

I try to chop things small, cook stuff until soft, and chew really well. I had to learn that last one - i guess i was a bad chewer before. Lol

I have had my ostomy (I think colostomy) for about 13ish years. I eat everything I used to eat. Some things make me gassy, but oh well. Thankfully I have never had a blockage either.
