  Coast FIRE age 48!!! Left my ups driving career after almost 30 years.  Wanted to leave while healthy.  And spend more time with my kids.  Good luck to everyone in here.

  I decided quite early (19-20yo) that I would try to retire by 55 with as much as possible, at the time I thought I would need about $1.8 million. Back then (late 80's) I don't think FIRE existed as a thing, but I would say I was a Slow FIRE that became Fat Fire. I did retire at 55 and we do have more than $5 million in investible assets. Retirement is by far the best job I ever had, and my highest paying.

  I thought I was Lean FIRE, but then I realized I wasn't done teaching, so transitioned to Coast FIRE. I am trying to change from the mindset of "SAVE EVERYTHING FOREVER" to, "you can have some nicer things and chill" and it is quite a change after 20 years of aggressive saving.

  We are closest to the slow fire philosophy... We each plan to retire when we are around 55. House is paid off and investment portfolio has enough to support us already with compound growth but we still contribute so we will have more in retirement. We have tried to balance living a good life now and saving enough to retire before 60.

  There's also "one more year" FIRE, where you hit your target FIRE number and keep working anyway due to personal defects that prevent you from retiring.

  Coast Fire is by far the best. Its a good feeling that you're going to be set no matter what when that time comes plus if you're saving 25%+ for retirement that money can go back in your pocket for an automatic raise or you can choose the work less hours etc. Just such an amazing option. Gives you the ultimate balance to enjoy life now and be in good shape when you're older. Love it.

  I'm debt-free and going F.I.R.E. on Jan 1st.  I planned early and purposely got a public sector job right out of college to get a pension and supplemental (401k/457b) retirement plan.  Employee health benefits will continue on in retirement.
