Without a doubt YES MEN was a factor in the quality of the prequels.

It was so sad that we all felt the loss of their divorce. Marcia and George were one of the most creative teams to ever work together in film. Such a shame.

I was 41 during the opening of Phantom Menace, and working in visual effects, so I had cause to be critical, but I enjoyed the movie... enough that when I got home from the screening, a friend called me to go see it again in the first fully digital screening in Burbank, so I saw it twice in one night. I was not impressed with Jar Jar, and thought that was a mistake, but the rest was good, particularly Darth Maul.

3:52 I turned 10 in 1983 by 1985 many of friends turned to GI Joe but by 1988 we gave up our toys for girls. Like George those girls divorced us and many of my friends have returned to their Star Wars toys.

In my assessment of TPM it proves that children are more forgiving than adults - children simply don't take into consideration performances or storytelling to the same level as their parents. There have been many kids movies I liked as a child and after revisiting them as an adult I cringe with a question of how I managed to like them in the first place. But often watching them can bring back those good memories you had from back in the day. I think TPM is not a great movie (not terrible either), but I can understand there are elements it contains, that those being kids in 1999 would hold on too and later enjoy revisiting. Having said that, I don't think the 70's & 80's generation are so much blinded by nostalgia of the original trilogy, but more aware and unforgiving of all the TPM weaknesses. To me, the movie is a very honest depiction of George Lucas as a filmmaker - his weaknesses are obvious for everyone to see. Yet it also shows what an amazing producer he is. Back in the day the movie did suffer from its own hype and the backlash was, at least in part, a reflection of that. After I saw it in theatres in 1999 I hoped the next episode would be an improvement; I felt if it was, it would strengthen TPM. 26 years later, do I look upon the film more favourably? Not really. I think movies from Pixar, Peter Jackson, Harry Potter were much more enjoyable.

I totally agree with what was said at the end. George had Yes men around during the prequel.

Anthony Daniels comes across as a monumental prick in all of these documentaries

Han being the only one who shot really made him a bad*ss character. George taking that away was horrifying.

i loved the phantom menace and attack of the clones until i bought the dvd for attack and couldn't sit through it. i camped out for tix to ep1 and ep2 so i totally ate all the hype up and had a great time at the theater but they disintegrated on rewatch. i did not camp out for ep 3 and i haven't watched any star wars movie after force awakens cause i wasn't gonna do that to myself again. i'd literally rather watch people talk about the prequels than watch them.
