I enjoyed watching this so much. I've listened to this song hundreds of times, and having taken music lessons on piano, 4 string banjo, mandolin, jazz guitar and finally tenor saxophone, to have this epic song analyzed in such an appreciative way validated my feeling this song is a true Masterpiece.  Thanks so much, eh?  I'm in Canada too. ✌ Love the Close to the Edge T-shirt as well.

I’d give away a kidney to be able to play this song on guitar.

This song has my favorite guitar solo! It's perfection for me!

Jim, I'd like to hear your perspective over this single "July 97" by Alip Ba Ta. He's a fingerstyler but in this video he played both acoustic and electric. As much as I enjoyed his pieces, I would love to know the technical aspect from a fellow musican. Thanks Jim

What do you think of the double pick slide they played live in the middle of the solo, but is missing on the album version?? That double pick slide is the coolest! Check the live versions if you don't know what I mean. Thanks!

Wow, just WOW! I was an 11 year old boy when this came out and I was addicted. 😀 It still excites me. But you have just elevated it even more, which I didn't think was possible! Can I ask if you would analyse Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan? Larry Carlton's soloing is awesome IMO.

Soooo .... you will understand why I loathed playing this as the only guitarist in a three-piece covers band (in the 70s).   I had a chord/semi-lead style which allow me to BS my way through a lot of it, but the solos at the end ... not so much.   Played partial chords but ignored the bends - couldn't do it and keep the rhythm going.    Still, we got applauded for our version of it a lot, so we must have been doing something right!   :-)

I wonder if you might do Can't Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers, or one of their other songs, if you'd like? That'd be a fun one to see. Have a good day!
