In 1983 as a young engineer, I was working in Antwerp for an offshore construction company. I was teaching myself the guitar and had an acoustic with me which I used to strum in the mess room. One day this man approached me and asked if I knew any Squeeze songs, I told that I didn’t. He asked me that if he brought in some sheet music would I try to play it. The next day he brought the sheet music for labelled with love and I gave him my very poor rendition. He told me that his son had written the song and that his name was Glenn Tilbrook. The man was Peter Tibrook, Glenn’s dad.

Glad to watch a Squeeze story that doesnt include Jouls Holland. When you read Jouls book about himeslf it gives the impression that he alone is the driving force of Squeeze. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks

I always found this to be a very emotional song, it connected with me instantly even as a young kid and I remember thinking at the end, the first time I heard it, that I NEVER wanted to end up like that.

It saved the reputation of DJ Tony Blackburn when he chose it as his record of the week. I had believed it was the only song where the title is the last line of the song. Never twigged the Virginia Plain connection. Magnificent

They are still outstanding now as in the 80's. Never got the recognition they deserved.

It’s cool to see the younger Tilbrook brother doing a You Tube vidéo on his older brother’s song

0:14 Also noteworthy is Gilson Lavis' iconic oddball drum fill at the end of the intro, leading into the first verse. RIP, Mr. Lavis.
