  darpa has funded the development of drones the size of a fly, most notably the roboFly. it weighs approximately 60 milligrams and has a wingspan of 3 centimeters (about 1.2 inches). the drone utilizes piezoelectric actuators to mimic the complex wing trajectories and aerodynamic effects of real flies, allowing it to hover and maneuver with high agility.

  You should collaborate with someone who can design a sandwich multilayer PCB that houses all the electronics. Then it would be even smaller, so there would be no gap between the diagonal propellers. It would also be strong due to its thickness, so you could reduce weight by eliminating the frame.

  At that size, I would consider thrust per miliamp of current to get not the strongest propeller, but the most energy efficient one. So the battery can get smaller or a longer flight time.

  If you oriented your battery vertically below the rotors, you&apos;d improve centre of gravity, improve airflow into the rotors, and give yourself a launch stand. You&apos;d need a bent wire mast to attach the battery to. It wouldn&apos;t make the drone smaller but it might make it more usable.
