I have TBR but it's a lifetime TBR. Meaning it's a list of books that I want to read when I feel like I want to read.

I hate the idea that 5 star books have to be super meaningful, and thought provoking, with amazing prose, and like a work of art. No, sometimes a book is just fun, and that enough to be 5 stars. Sometimes you read a book at a formative time and that’s a 5 star. It’s not that complicated, just rate however you feel like, it’s your opinion

My personal hot take is this: just because you like a book doesn’t mean it’s well written and on the flip side, just because you hate something doesn’t mean it’s bad. I’ve heard so many people say a certain book is bad just because they didn’t like it, ok but is it badly written or is it just that it’s not for you? I always try to remember that when I rate books. I loved Silver Elite but I would never say it’s a ā€œgood bookā€ šŸ˜…

I 100% understand why it exists but  trope marketing is still so frustrating. Tropes are formulas. If you diverge from the formula, it’s false advertising. But if do it exactly, it’s cliche or uninspired. If you avoid tropes entirely, you may not break into the zeitgeist. I know these are generalities and plenty of exceptions exist but it’s still so difficult to navigate

I read over 100 books per year, including audiobooks, but I also don't watch TV or play video games and have fairly low screen time. It's just my preference to read. There's nothing wrong with people who do those other activities, but it's all a matter of where you choose to alot your time. People reading a lot of books, choose to prioritize reading in their day. The speed at which people read can also affect this. Everyone is different.

I don’t think explicit spice takes away from a good plot, but I do think that not all books need a spicy romance. Sometimes the spice scenes happen way to quick in the relationship, or way too often so I can’t follow the plot properly

Saying that reading a lot is overconsumption is like saying someone who eats when they are hungry is overeating

Honestly libraries were in such a bad state during the pandemic but with the surge of readers from TikTok I think things have tremendously changed for the better. I used to be able to get newly released books from the library fairly easy but now I sometimes have to wait months in a queue just to read them šŸ˜… my library even sent out a notification about how they had to open up multiple queues for one book. And to be honest I love that for them.

I don't think there is anything wrong with sexual content in books written for teenagers but I think the larger problem is framing any sexual content as "spice" becuse there is a difference between sexual content with a further purpose of exploring the topics of curiosity and self-discovery and boundaries + consent (something very healthy for teens!) vs sexual content with the exclusive purpose of being sensual + arousing.

17 year old here - THANK YOU for your take on spice in YA books! I’ve seen a lot of my friends pick up stuff like Colleen Hoover and ACOTAR in the last year or two because that’s what’s popular online, and personally I think we’d be much better served by some healthy spice in the books that are actually meant for us rather than exclusively in the adult books that we pick up because of TikTok. Teenagers exist online and teenagers pick up what’s popular online—if people online are recommending spicy books and that’s what’s popular, teenagers will come across it (not even to mention fanfiction). But it’s probably much healthier for teenagers to read spice in a YA book that presents it as a healthy coming of age experience and represents things that many of us are actively feeling and dealing with rather than in an adult TikTok book about characters who are either much more experienced than us and therefore giving unrealistic expectations for new experiences or are in bad situations that are normalizing harmful things because it happens to be the first representation of intimacy that a lot of us are exposed to. <br>I want realistic coming of age experiences in books that are meant for the real people who are coming of age—that includes spice.

A note on buying books: I also love owning books, but I think we should all start utilizing the library more. Maybe we get a book from the library and if we like it, we buy it! There are a lot of books that I&apos;ve purchased that I haven&apos;t enjoyed. Was it a waste of money? No not necessarily, but I will eventually just give the book away anyway.
