Well, this is how I learn that “The Inkey List” (brand) is a play on words for the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients or INCI List — the long list of ingredient names on the packaging. 🤯

What I wouldn’t give for a Lisa Eldridge podcast! I could listen to you talk about cosmetics and skincare all day. I find these videos so relaxing, especially when everything feels like it’s on fire.

I love it when you go all educational and teacher-like to push for some common sense and not just fall for marketing. I can't wait for more LE skincare, as I know it will be awesome and based on facts. I adore the cleanser so much, so I have full trust. I'd rather spend more money on something that is transparent and will help long-term, than for a short-term effect.😻

As someone working in cosmetic contract manufacturing, I think other big factors that contribute to their low cost is cost of labour, scale and automation. Labour cost is lower in South Korea than the west, especially for filling line workers. Their clients order very high volumes of that allow unit prices to go down. And because of their scale they can buy the latest automated filling line machines, that further lowers labour cost and unit price.

Thank you for shedding light on snail farming and offering alternatives to salmon-derived PDRN, Lisa! One of the things I admire about you is your love for animals and that your brand is cruelty free.

Hi! Love this video, just would like to add for anyone reading the comments that doesn't know about it that in Korea, cosmetic brands have historically been allowed to market the percentage of an “extract solution” rather than the actual percentage of pure botanical extract. This means that a product advertised as containing “80% centella extract” could in reality contain 80% of a blend made of water, solvents (such as butylene glycol or glycerin), and only a smaller amount of the real centella extract itself.

In Europe and, to a lesser extent, the United States, claims about extract percentages are generally expected to be more transparent and less misleading. Brands face stricter scrutiny regarding marketing claims, so it is much less common to see extremely high percentages like “90% extract” unless they can substantiate what that percentage truly represents. If there is a blend in a product in US or EU (e.g.: Centella Asiatica Extract + Water + Glycerin + preservatives), each significant component of the blend must be declared separately in the overall INCI list of the product, according to its actual proportion in the finished product. It is not the same in Korea.

As a result, Korean products often make it difficult to know the actual amount of botanical material present.

Korean regulators have recently started tightening the rules on this issue, specifically stating that dilution solvents should not be counted as part of the extract percentage in marketing claims, but the older practice is still commonly seen in many products and formulations.

I didn’t know this before either, but since learning about it I pay much more attention. Whenever possible, I try to buy products with transparent percentages of active compounds (such as centella triterpenes) and I pay very close attention to brands claims.

Thank you for acknowledging the harm/cruelty associated with snail mucin!
