"A completely new game" is for boys, "This position has never been reached again" is for the good stuff.

Thomas Wilson Barnes is like the Black Knight from Monty Python movie. Barnes: Take my queen without compensation, eh? It is but a flesh wound. I am Invincible!

Barnes looks like an old Army veteran, General who believes offence is the best defence and talks about the good old days

Barnes' Wikipedia entry gives: "Thomas Wilson Barnes (1825–1874) was an English chess master, one of the leading British masters of his time. He went on a diet and lost 130 pounds (9st 4lb) in 10 months, which resulted in his death."

Great game!. Barnes is a very good example of an all-out romantic era player. He immediatly goes all in with an attack, no matter the cost. He attacks with the Knight and gets some material advantage, but Morphy is only concerned with developing his pieces, which, in the end, is the soul of modern chess. Going all in is nice and all, and it's very entertaining, but it's very, very dangerous against an opponent who's only concerned with putting his pieces in the best places.

That's why I think Morphy greatest advice reflects the essence of his game: "Help your pieces, so that your pieces can help you".
