Id recommend better lighting, other than that great video man. Love seeing these cars get saved rather than junked and sent to the scrap yard🤙🏼

It's a Toyota, it will still run regardless of maintenance, my old coworker has an 06 camry and never changed the oil for the least 6yrs hes owned it 😂

Those rollas have oil burning issues. You can try what you want, but its a common issue. There's this guy on Youtube with that generation rolla that is experimenting with different solutions to help with the oil burning. He hasn't solved it yet

Y'all gave so much hassle for a $1k car, especially being a bulletproof car. But it is what it is, glad y'all got some of it fixed. Door handles, door panels, oil consumption, broken windshield reservoirs are common issues on these cars, as well as electrical but it's rare. Unless the transmission has reached 200k miles with no fluid change, don't change it. You'd legit have to know for sure it was changed regularly, or else it will cause the transmission to fail. Ask me how I know. Yes I'm an automotive technician, been doing it as a kid. Best thing to do is get a bi directional scan tool and reset the BCM for the transmission and have it relearned. And if it still has issues then it's a mechanical issue instead of a electrical issue. But yeah I own a 99' Corolla with 194k miles and fluid is black and dirty, trans would jump when it put it in gear and sometimes jump when going to 2nd. After I reseted it with a Xtool D7. It runs amazing and shifts smooth now!

The oil is dark even though you just changed it because it picked up all the sludge FROM BEFORE you changed it. I have seen it happen. We done an engine swap in a tractor from an old truck that had the exact same engine. I changed the oil BEFORE the first start because it had been sitting for years. ABOUT 1 HOUR of use, maybe 2 and it was REAL dirty and we changed it again. The new oil had bought out all the old sludge. Second change and it stayed good. I'm talking just over 4 GALLONS of oil, so I had put in the cheapest crap the first time.

the 99 corollas tendency to burn oil is largely due to the engine design flaws, its a known problem with Corollas cars from 98-02, The most common causes are worn piston rings, valve seals, and a failing PCV valve, I use 10w30 instead of 5w30 and noticed a huge difference in oil consumption, also if its a 3 speed try to keep it under 70 mph

Great video. I’m hoping I can convince my wife to let me try and do something like this soon. The paint job is a great security feature so depending on where you live you might just want to keep it that way. 😂

Not sure if he got around to the smiley face on the dash yet but, Rust-oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint will stick to that dash.... I fixed an area on one of my 2005 Corollas... You won't match the color of course but he can tape and paint a nice contrast color rectangle in that space... It will look a ton better.... Be sure there is absolutely no breeze and cover how dash with drop cloth so paint doesn't get on anything.... He kept saying the valves were clean... They sure were.. Someone must have kept up oil changes and well, 177K miles is super low for a 1999.... Cleaning the areas to ready for new valve gasket with brake cleaner would have been good also......

I had one they have defective piston rings it will burn oil I promise. The oil pan gasket tends to wear out as well. I did the old backyard tune up like you and mine just had problem after problem. Hopefully you have more luck than me. My entire exhaust system came off on the highway and a bunch of other shit it was a giant headache. This year was generally considered a dud.
