I discovered CiCi as a fan of Dave Simpson. His band now Red Giant.

Any time listening to Cici is time well spent in our house 😊 Fantastic episode and it's triggered quite the debate over which LOTR character would be best on bass 😂

Man I feel so validated for also not liking basses that have binding or aren't rounded where the forearm sits. Comfort and balance is just right at the top of my list when it comes to basses b/c I play sets that last 4 hours. I definitely HATE basses that don't balance well.

For a recording has it become common at all to track a Bass dry and another track with effects? Sorry just a dumb guitar player here Lol

Because Fenders aren't that great! There are better basses from other brands at every pricepoint. Yes in the early 60's Fenders were good, but there weren't many alternatives anyway, and then post CBS quality went off a cliff, the 70s and 80s (Japanese models excepted) were more than not awful!

For what it's worth I don't like the small radius of Fender fingerboards, block inlays, or bindings, so that kind of rules out Fenders.
