  Fiennes called &apos;The Return&apos; an anti-war film, and Odysseus&apos;s journey starts when he washes up by happenstance back home on the shores of Ithaca. He must go through many obstacles of guilt and fear before he can really return home. To me it feels that a midway point in this journey occurs at his Father&apos;s tomb where he whispers the mournful utterence &quot;Father&quot; over Laertes coffin. Then goes on to lament, &quot;We did not know the dead were the lucky ones. You survive ... but there&apos;s nothing left inside&quot;. I thought Fiennes was astounding. And Binoche as Penelope was wonderful, as well.

  I thought the shade of Achilles telling Odysseus to choose immortality over glory and then Odysseus refusing Calypso offer of immortality so he can return to Penelope was one of the most redeeming qualities of him.
