My take is that bonsai teaches you how to think like a 4th-dimensional being. You are forced to see time.

Bonsai is the epitome of the quote: "A work of art is never truly finished, it is only abandoned".

Just because you plant one in the ground for a couple years and cut the trunk doesn’t make it a “cheap imitation”, it’s a real technique.

800 years old bonsai means: someone looked at that tree every day, water it every day, taking care. From parents to kids, to kids, to kids, EVERY DAY some one took care of that tree.
800 years: that is 292200 days someone checked the wire, the moist.
Bonsai is living art.

I’m an a Florida bonsai artist and there are some bonsai that can start from a thin little cutting and in 4-5 years could be a Florida exhibit worthy tree but nobody really appreciates tropical trees compared to the usual junipers and pines because some people think that it can only be bonsai if it’s from Japan although this may be debatable but the nabari and taper on tropical trees are usually way better than junipers because of the juniper bonsai artist that don’t like scars and in bonsai scars are fine like if you let wire cut in if it wasn’t extremely bad like the picture he provided it would be fine.
