  The wide serve to the duece court, so effective in this match, was a vital weapon against Connors in the finals.

  To say this is a treasure is a gross understatement. Tennis was such a different game back then, dominated by change of pace and creative shot making. I find I like this game much more than what tennis has become sadly. And this is coming from someone in his 30’s.

  It’s great that back then they just got on with it quickly. No messing around between points, proper rackets, one handed backhands.

  It is fascinating that Roche, clearly inferior to Connors by 1975, gave Ashe way more issues than Connors did in the final. Matchups are so intriguing.

  Arthur mentioned Roche's stomach injury affecting his serve. He also cited his superior general fitness to Tony, who he said had played quite a bit of Team tennis that year, possibly where he picked up that injury. Arthur's court coverage and volleys were superb. His forehand volley is devastating, so Tony hit more to his backhand. Tie-break happened at 8-8 in the fourth.

  Strangest thing, to see the instant continuation of play after Ashe goes two sets to one up....<br>Wimbledon should bring back the &apos;back to back seats for players.!

  Roche was before my time really but i just remember him as the coach of Ivan Lendl, and then I started to feel really old when Lendl became coach of Murray lol!
