This right here will serve as a spot for any corrections I make and additional info that I may have left out cause I'm dumb and will be updated.
First off big thanks to https://www.youtube.com/@LEIDO_PROD who I commissioned, they are responsible for any animations you see in this video.

DON'T FORGET TO JOIN THE DISCORD https://discord.gg/7wrxp7VvxE

Also the project zomboid timeline is very vague and confusing at times so some events and there dates are subject to change as PZ development continues.

I also intend to make my videos longer going forward so this may result in more times between videos. Thank you guys a bunch for watching it means the world.

CLARIFICATIONS AND CORRECTIONS

When it comes to containment I should have added that they could have also just nuked Knox county. Would it stop the virus, meh maybe but it is my opinion that this was containable. Keep in mind it wouldn't have been easy but if they went full hazmat from day one with incredibly strict biohazard procedures they would have stood a much better chance.

As for it spreading so quickly a lot of people forget that it needs someone or something to spread with. Whether that animals or in this case people. The quarantine was failing and had been for a few days prior to the checkpoint breach. A lot of immune people made it out of the exclusion zone and interacted with the general population before everybody outside of the military realized it was airborne. Explaining why it spread so quickly.

"THE MILITARY MOVES SLOWLY"
They locked down an entire county, hundreds of square miles in the span of 1-2 days with little external or internal justification. I think they could have thrown biohazard gear in there if they really wanted.

"PZ is still in development and this is a writing stopgap."
Yeah sure but if you know that you also know that updates take years for this game so its fun to speculate on lore based on what we have.

Also you guys are totally free to disagree with my opinion. I do enjoy the exchange of ideas I just threw up some common arguments I've seen in the comments.

6:00 The thing is, they're technically not lying saying that there aren't fatalities. Zombies also never existed as a concept in zomboids universe unlike our own, so the best that they could truthfully describe these people as is braindead or weirdly lifeless, but they still moved so they technically weren't dead

9:05 - The fact that the Knox Infection spread to other parts of the world so rapidly would actually indicate that it'd already begun spreading outside of the Exclusion Zone BEFORE the perimeter fell. Because there must have been people who'd gotten out of the Zone before the lockdown who'd been infected but weren't showing any symptoms.

The core lore has never been clear about the incubation time of the airborne strain.

9:40 - Or they could have declared "Heaven's Breath" for the Storm Warning Contingency Plan and begun carpet-bombing the Knox Exclusion Zone with high-powered incendiaries and nuclear weapons in an attempt to sterilize the entire area (and the virus with it).

thats why there isnt a soldier class onloy a veteran one because all the soldiers would have been sent out and died and the only survivors that could be related to the army would have been veterans

5:45 gave me chills to think that the army was guarding a location that was full of just dead people and telling everyone outside that the people inside were fine. When you think about it, that’s not even a full lie. The people are undead so one could argue that they were still ‘alive’ and ‘unharmed’.

6:46 This is why I think a nuke would be a really bad idea. If wind catches the fallout and takes the virus with it, that could float it out incredible distances. There's a real-life story of an island where Soviets were testing biological weapons and wind picked up the airborne stuff and carried it out to sea where it infected people on a passing ship - who then took it home to their families and killed people (at least one child and an elderly person - the original infected person lived in a small town, if I remember correctly).

theres evidence in the game to suggest the military was responsible for the outbreak, at least primarily. First was the secret research installation near rosewood deep in the forest, which has paths connecting both to the rosewood prison, and the asylum. Deep in the bunker beneath the installation is a morgue, a mri machine, a deeper older cavern that may have evidence of stone age human habitation. Then theres the sheer volume of infected around and in the base. Its likely i think that the virus first broke out there. Then contaminated the local environment with the military truck spill. At the time, i don't think the military was aware that it had begun to spread to humans. Likely because it was either inactive or not originally designed.

There's a good chance the virus mutated by interacting with the environment and the large population of knox county that provided enough genetic diversity to allow the virus to mutate rapidly. There's also evidence to suggest it spread first through canines, which is why they were the first to be exterminated. This would explain the very early onset of telecommunications being sabotaged far before the first public case in muldraugh, and many of the weird events that occured in the first days of the news papers. It's probable that during the containment of knox county, the virus mutated to become airborne now, and thats when ultimately the quarantine failed. The military probably didnt withhold information from their soldiers that much, but instead were just arrogant and assumed they understood the virus already especially given the cdc was underfunded.

The virus had probably spread through the ecosystem for days before it ever started being truly active in humans by infecting shipping lines and airlines. My theory is the military made KXV as a bio weapon during the cold war, and used asylum patients and innmates as test subjects, then something eventually went wrong, and it got out, and evolved in a way the military was not prepared to handle.
