The scale/cost of that project is far more terrifying that any ghost!!! Nevertheless, I wish you and your family every success!
My advice as a carpenter & joiner would be get a talented architect to complete a working drawing for the whole project and do ALL your alterations on paper BEFORE YOU START! Chopping and changing along the way will cost you dearly in many, many ways!

This was exceptionally generous of Stephen and his family to share this interesting property with us. It is clear he holds a great affection for this former manor house which has played its part in our island's history for several centuries and we wish him every success with this admirable project. The carved wooden mantlepiece will make an impressive feature once the major work has been completed. Will certainly have a watch at 'Brynglas Restoration'.
Many thanks for this interesting episode.

You definitely have to keep that 1724 timber above the fireplace.

The house will be beautiful. Wonderful of them to save it.

The flowers carved over the hearth are hexafoils, apotropaic charms to keep away malign influences. Wonderful house, and best of luck to Steven and Phoebe in their restoration challenge! PS - I wonder if the legend recounted from 1903 in Byegones was tangentially related to the genesis of the 1904 Non-Conformist revival in Wales with it's temperance... :)

What an interesting place. Pick a beautiful spot on your land and lay flowers to the memory of all who lived or worked there over many centurys

I certainly wish them well. It sounds to me as if the curse (if such a thing existed) was upon the Deveroux family, and not upon the building or the land itself.
May the Lord grant them long life and happiness

The house gives the impression of being rather tense and sad; it feels as though it is lost in time. Houses need to be lived in. I wish the family the best of luck for the future, and hope the house sprite looks kindly upon them.

I wouldn’t know where to start with renovating that building.

18:39 here here sir, here here! Our country is unrecognisable sadly. I think keeping our heritage and history is a part of who we are and what we’re about. Let’s not lose it ❤
