Always the walk before and always walk after.

A 60 year old ultra marathon trail runner here - I always, always, always do a cool down of walking/light running a 1/2 mile or so after a significant run to let the HR gradually come down and keep the blood going into the muscles for a bit afterwards. Sudden stopping is just terrible thing to do. That and getting some carbs and protein into the system ASAP - not a full meal, but a few hundred calories that can quickly get into the system to supply your body's immediate repair process. Proper nutrition during a >1 hours run also helps a ton.

I run in reverse for twenty days a month. Of course, I enjoy running from one kilometer to three kilometers. I am over 60 years old. I also participate in some running competitions in our city. I have the first place in the company where I work, of course, in running. Dear Coach, thank you for your information.

Great video. I am great at warm-ups, lousy at warm-downs, will try to change. Because I get muscle tiredness, 63.

I started to see recovery time of several days after quality training and long runs. Sometimes 72 hours 😢

I've done two things this summer, mentioned in this video, to kick off my 2026 training. Those two are strength training, and very easy runs, that include walking, during hotter parts of the day. The immediate effect has been, my sleeping heart rate is back down in the mid 40's, which suggests that I'm recovering better than last year.

1. Cold plunge for 5min. 2. Naturally warm up after plunge with gentle, lengthy stretching. 3. Rolling or gunning if needed 4. Hot shower. 5. High protein meal. 6. Early bedtime. <br>I don’t mention hydration because the need comes naturally. Do these 6 things in succession and you’ll be right as soon as the next day. I followed this during training for and for a mini bicycle tour of 250 miles in threes days with 6kft of climbing at age 59 that left me as fresh on the last day as I was in the first.

I'm 73 now going on 74. After a fall on ice late winter I hung up my nano spikes and have just started back. I did a 4.5km and yesterday did a 5.5 km. both within one hour. I always take 300cc of water with Vega Recovery post run. (Creatine Monohydrate on waking. I'm T2 diabetic) I feel my core popping back into shape. It took me a while to. get my heart rate up the first run, but got into my green zone. Yesterday's run, I got into my green zone much quicker. But alas my VO2 Max has suffered. I hope it comes back. Thinking of swapping out for a cycle as recovery. Don't want to lose my motivation. That fall on snow covered ice was nasty but finished my run, no broken bones. Spooky. Do isometrics at home, weighted squats etc.

Yeah, I walked to where i need to go after the run. And sometimes, I'll get into doing house chores after the run. Hope this is a form of immediate recovery after runs.

Thank you and thanks to Seona, I did her Weds Intermediate Strength session every week in prep for the Cape Town Marathon. The sun and humidity got to me in the end so I didn’t get the time I hoped for, but it’s all good experience in the bank. Hope you guys get the major in a couple of weeks - great event snd city.
