We were in the shipyard there in the late 80's. It was just becoming this slick, chrome machine you see today. But behind one front was the real life of ordinary working folk. It was hawkers markets, food stalls under the Newton freeway bridges, huge bowls of chilli crab or banana leaf curry. I ordered THE very last drink at the old 1920's Raffles Bar, all bamboo chairs and clattery fans. It was New Years Eve/early 4am as they closed down for the last time before renovation. It was a pint of Guinness.

I don't want to live in a major city but if I did Singapore would be near the top of the list. I love Singapore. The food and people are outstanding.

Westerners love criticizing countries for their lack of „freedom of speech“. Try publicly insulting your company or I*rael and see where that gets you in the US. Same thing but without safety, high living standards, peaceful diversity of cultures and religions
