The class 139 was made for a branch less than a mile long it takes less than 3 minutes you dont need a big train for lots of people

The jet train was not designed for passenger traffic but as a laboratory, so its complexity and cost are not important at all. And his task was not to test the possibility of running on jet engines, but to test the operational capabilities of the railway system with high‑speed trains—and nothing more.

APT-E was NEVER meant for proper service that's why the E stands for experimental so not really failed at all it was always a test bed

The 139 doesn’t need to do anything but shuttle down the Stourbridge town branch line so nice one you can’t say it’s awful. It replaced the 153s on the line because the 153 was too big.

5:05 when people gonna realise that this photo is fake, it's mixed 2 different trains, for those who interested, one is DR1A, and second is SVL (Soviet Turbojet)

One kinda funny note about the centipede is that iirc, it was also nicknamed the “Curve Straightener” as its immensely rigid frame, extreme weight, and powerful drive, made it a nightmare on curves, and would often damage them. It simply could not take sharp or even average curves that well.

You left out one vital point about the APT-E's gas turbines. The fuel crisis of 1973, when the price of fuel QUADRUPLED overnight, meant that it became un-economical to use turbines, and so we HAD to go all-electric. And of course the tilt system took time to develop, no-one anywhere had ever done it before! And I was one of the ones who was doing that developing too. It took the Wright Bros. some time to get their plane working well enough too.................

the apt and class 139 being on this list grinds my gears tbh, the pacer i somewhat understand although i feel there’s worse if we’re talking about safety
considering the class 175 has a history of catching fire, it’s kinda surprising that didn’t make the cut, or the class 805 and 807 that don’t tilt, replacing the class 221 which does tilt and therefore can take bends faster than what’s replacing it

Someone is clueless on bayer garratt locomotives. These replaced two locomotives into one. So lees crew members. And a lot of classes of garratts they saved on water and coal. So saved money. A lot these were ran into the ground and they still went on. Plus garratts actually gained speed on curves. Plus some classes actually not only doubled weight of trains but gained some more. Oh and to the pacer. There were okay. They don’t bounce on express lines and only time they bounced a tad is crossing the points. Make all lines like express lines no one would complain as much.
