  After I finished restoring my boat, we took it south to a lake near Gainesville, Florida. We found a beautiful lake and put the boat in the water. We skied and knee-boarded for a short time, but stopped because we kept hitting something in the water. Since the lake was new to us, we thought it was either wood or some other floating debris, so we decided to take the boat out and go to another lake. While loading the boat and stowing the skis and gear, a park ranger approached and asked if we were skiing in the lake. I told him yes, but we stopped because we were worried about damaging my restored boat. He then asked if I knew the lake's name. I said no. He told me it’s called Alligator Lake and was surprised we were skiing there. He explained that this lake has more alligators than any other in Florida. About a week later, I was talking to a friend who works for the Gainesville newspaper, and she was also shocked when I described what happened. A few days afterward, I received a photo from the newspaper of the lake at dusk, showing hundreds of eyes reflecting the sunlight. It turns out there are over 300 alligators in the lake, and what we were hitting might have been alligators. We never returned to that lake.

  Ive been to Africa and seen crocs in the Limpopo river. One, about 14' long, looked like a monster. You wouldn't want to meet one believe me.

  Should be the death penalty for animal smugglers who illegally bring species into an environment where they will likely be a cause of death for future generations of people.

  As an Aussie who spend some time in the Top End where the really big Saltwater Crocodiles live. Just understand they are known to climb into boats and take the occupants or rest their heads atop the outboard boat motor watching your every move. Research these creatures and be sure to take care.
