  I was driving home from Glendale, AZ back to Indianapolis following a long project away from home completing a manufacturing plant startup. I would pick-up books on tape from Cracker Barrel and return the rentals at other Cracker Barrels along the trip home. I was missing my family and was excited about moving back home. The last book I rented was "Into Thin Air". I was so amazed at this story that I sat in my car, in my own driveway, to listen to the last 15 minutes of the book at about midnight, before I went in the house.

  "I get writer's block every time I sit down to write." This is probably one of the best interviews I've see with a writer. Jon's ability to so comprehensively feel the pain of the people he writes about is what makes him a great writer, and also why he quit. So glad I saw this. Completely grateful for it.

  I've read the book and listened to the Audible version over a dozen times.  Each time I hope Rob Hall will bring down his clients at the deadline he set - maybe next time.

  This interview has taught me one thing: climbing experience is one set of skills, climbing above the death zone is a completely different skill set.

  I saw Jon speak in Boulder when I lived there and he came across the same way. I don’t think anyone who wasn’t there is in a position to judge his perception.

  Great writer who also paid the price for covering extreme death laced events. Thank you Jon. I still have a copy of your article in Outside 1992 about the multiple deaths on McKinley (Denali). I was also there at the time. Got stopped by the insane storms at 17,000 feet. Made it the next year, beautiful weather. Great interview by David Grann too.

  I saw Jon and Tom Hornbein speak at a Mountaineers event in Seattle in 2013. Both were superb. They signed my books and a 1939 ice axe I have hanging in my home.
