Time Goes By — Aelion Gray | Bleeding Strings

Some people leave our lives, but they never really leave us. “Time Goes By” is an intimate acoustic ballad about memory, enduring love, absence, and the quiet ways someone can remain part of us long after everything else has changed. Carried by warm nylon-string guitar and a deeply soulful vocal, the song moves through remembrance not as something to escape, but as something we slowly learn to carry. For listeners drawn to the emotional storytelling and weathered, introspective spirit associated with Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Mark Lanegan, Eddie Vedder, “Time Goes By” belongs to a world of honest words, organic instrumentation, and songs that are allowed to breathe. At its heart is a simple thought: Time may keep moving, but love does not always move with it. Sometimes a voice remains in a room. Sometimes a memory returns with the wind. Sometimes what we thought we had lost finds another way to stay. 🎧 MOOD | GENRE | SOUND Reflective | Melancholic | Intimate | Nostalgic | Soulful | Cinematic Acoustic Folk | Singer-Songwriter | Folk Soul | Cinematic Acoustic | Contemporary Folk Nylon-String Guitar | Fingerstyle Guitar | Organic Acoustic | Deep Soulful Vocal | Minimalist Arrangement If this song brings someone or somewhere back to you, you’re welcome to leave their memory here in the comments. LYRICS | TIME GOES BY I found your name in a quiet chord where silence learned to speak again it lingered where the light was torn where yesterday still leaves its stain The room still holds your faded tone like dust that hums a sacred line and every space I call my own still folds itself in your design And time goes by… but it never lets you go it only learns to speak your name more slow and every love we thought was lost in rain returns again… like music through the pain And I still hear you in the wind at night like a candle refusing to die you are the shadow in my light you are the reason I still try I traced your laugh in a worn-out sky where stars forget to fade away and even distance couldn’t lie it only learned what hearts will say Every road I thought was mine alone still bends where your memory stands like an unfinished wooden throne built from invisible hands And time goes by… but it never lets you go it only learns to speak your name more slow and every love we thought was lost in rain returns again… like music through the pain And I still hear you in the wind at night like a candle refusing to die you are the shadow in my light you are the reason I still try If I close my eyes, you’re still the same not gone… just out of sight like a flame that learned your name and burns inside the night And time goes by… but it never lets you go it only learns to speak your name more slow and every love we thought was lost in rain returns again… like music through the pain And I still hear you in the wind at night like a candle refusing to die you are the shadow in my light you are the reason I still try Written & performed by Aelion Gray © 2026 Aelion Gray | All Rights Reserved #TimeGoesBy #AelionGray #BleedingStrings #AcousticMusic #SingerSongwriter #FolkMusic #SoulfulMusic #AcousticBallad #NylonStringGuitar #SongsAboutLife #SongsAboutLove #SongsAboutLoss
