Oracle has always been EVIL… The loss of Sun has been huge… the industry has essentially stagnated since: no new ideas

Sun tried to give away software so as to commoditise it and got commoditised on the hardware side, leaving no place to go.

Java when pushed by Sun and then Oracle was horrible. Dump on Oracle al you want but Sun was a PITA on PCs back then. Java was like Flash. You make Sun way too much the victim. Good riddance to them because of that. "Free" to the devs, but the business and consumer users of apps that used it paid the price in updates that could be hell. They didn't make money off of consumers, so they and Oracle never cared if the consumer had horrible experiences with it. But at no time did they attempt to fix the issues that made it a horrible experience. These clowns were just that, clowns. Billions or not. Eff that guy.
