I have to ask, why is all this equipment needed for everyday life???
There was a time when none of this existed and somehow we still got by reasonably comfortably!
Extraordinary!

Widespread robotics, including self driving vehicles and even humanoid robots for every-day tasks will require enormous amounts of computing capacity, essentially AI coming to industry, transportation and everyday life in the home.
Photonics is likely the only way forward, with decreasing cost per basic computing process, but the numbers required will make it enormously expensive as an industry.

And I'm pretty sure they did it and figured it out because USA stopped them from getting traditional chips from the USA so they figured a better way to do it. Am I wrong?
