Home Free is just awesome in collaborations. They're so good, yet never overshadow the collaborator, just showcase them. They never let ego get in the way of the music.

Ive seen very acclaimed musicians say; "you can set your watch to this guy". The beatboxer/drummer is out of this world. It's insane how talented he is.

That high 'drone' is probably Adam Rupp. One of the teases from Tim is 'just give Rupp a note and he will hold it forever'. And there is no beatboxing during the intro or the ending.
They were excited to have a song that had enough verses for everyone to have a full one to himself.

Tim's range is insane. The octaves he can cover is mind-blowing.

From what I understand Don's manager knew HF's manager, and asked them to be involved in a 50th anniversary release. Apparently Don wasn't so sure, but after he heard them he compared them to The Jordanaires, who were a harmony group who sang backup for Elvis Presley, and was all in favour of the idea. He recorded Vincent with them and got them to sing on a new song on his album, American Boys.

I liked the way that nearly everyone had a solo, but they always made sure Don was strongly represented.
And, yes, VINCENT!

The 50th Anniversary of American Pie (pretty cool huh!?!). Although Don was pressured to re-cut the song several times after the original release, he never did -- Till this time!!! That's HUGE ... and includes HF to do so and stipulation for HF to be present (and perform) with the reveal of McLean's "Star" on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame". --- And I ain't mad about it! Without the "Original" ... we wouldn't have this! : ) Thank You Sir for your R&A! Be Safe

They did such an amazing job on this classic song.
They recorded this during the pandemic for the 50th anniversary of the release of the song.I believe only Tim and Austin were the only ones in the studio with Don.Apparently Adam R almost passed out a couple times while recording his part due to the length of the song
They won 3 Telly awards for this version and Home Free and Weird Al was with Don got his Star on the Walk Of Fame.
Home Free also did Vincent with Don
Home Free just released a amazing 5 part harmony version of a Beatles cover called Good Night

It's nice to see Mr. McLean get a chance to sing along with Home Free as they cover his own song. Win-Win. Inclusion is everything.

The anthem of my teenage years. I was 16 when this first dropped. I’d lived through desegregation, the Kennedy/King assassinations, the Vietnam War was still raging and the music of the time reflected all of it. I can still remember every feeling and word of this time. Eight minutes of powerful imagery in one song.

There is a great documentary out now where Don explains this song. But the beauty of it is, it means something meaningful and different to everyone who hears it.

Nobody’s voice survives totally intact into the 70s but he’s still a wonderful performer.

Another stellar analysis. HF totally did it justice.
