  Be careful. If the weight is too close that throws a red flag as well. Many times a Customs broker or Freight forwarder will report you to a Senor Special Agent. That is another way investigations start.

  I truly enjoy customs. I travel every year to Europe. I buy very little. Last year, as usual, they opened my hand luggage. They were surprised with my WalMart set of plastic utensils, my books and similar items. Stupid is as stupid does it. I am frugal, and that's why I have money to travel.

  Firstly, customs or health inspectors at most ports will only pick maybe 10 of 100+ shipments in a consignment for random checks, esp raw food (short shelf life) My understanding of most transnational shipments of whatever variety of dual use proscribed substance is a tip off from an informer or occasionally sig/elint. Smaller scale bodystuffing mules are often also caught this way by a mixture of fingering one mule to police and brute force of several being sent on the same route so 1 is caught but the others get through. Patterns aren't always predictive if noticed or ignored as anomalies. A pattern is usuallly part of an investigation to build a case rather than initiating one.

  No System can automatically deduct the items had a different value than the travellers stated. BS<br><br>.....the system can track that a traveller always declares just under the limit. Combined with travellers port of origin, this could create a signal that it becomes suspicious or worthy to a manual check.
