So this version of Captain America is based on Audie Murphy, a soldier in WWII. He was too short to enlist, so his sister falsified his information so he could get in. He needed money so he could adopt his younger siblings since both of their parents died. He absolutely wrecked house, sometimes going in solo because his platoon would get pinned, and he was an insanely good shot. He was one of the first soldiers to actually speak up about PTSD and bring awareness to it.

The serum is supposed to amplify what is already there so for Steve it meant making him the super soldier he already was (minus the physical power) and for Red Skull this unsightly being reflecting his greed for power.

You shouldn't have watched 'Thunderbolts' before the Cap movies, because it spoils A LOT about Bucky...

The draft system at the time had a whole bunch of classifications. 1A was the most fit for service. 4F was totally unfit for service

this movie and the character were so unappreciated by the general public when it first came out. it wasn't hated by any means, but i would say the general feelings towards it were a light apathy with an openness to liking him the future, maybe; a "you don't annoy me and i'm not mad at you being around longer" kind of feelings lol. there were plenty of people that DID like it a lot but a lot of people were a little taken aback by it being a period piece and kind of having an almost era appropriate tone that it did. time was kind to it and when people starting revisiting the MCU from the start, many realized this movie was actually really well done and a fun time. same happened with thor 1

Guy Gabaldon, a Mexican American U.S. Marine who single-handedly convinced over 1,000 Japanese soldiers and civilians to surrender during the battles for Saipan and Tinian in World War II. He was able to do this because he learned Japanese and about Japanese culture as a child growing up in Los Angeles. His actions earned him the nickname "The Pied Piper of Saipan".
