The Germans underestimated the industrial might the Americans processed. They were producing multiple tanks, planes, ships, and weapons in just hours like clockwork. Where it would take Germany days or even weeks to produce just a single tank. That's what really won the war.

This is one of the few examples we can see and point to where one side thought of everything and accomplished it.

I think even if Rommels tanks were there they were still doomed you need large naval and air units to defend a beach head that long as well

Hobart’s funnies were designed to overcome specific German defences. The flail tank destroyed the German minefields, the AVRE could destroy a bunker, and the Churchill Crocodile's flames broke the German's will to fight.

Essentially two things worked against them: The first was actual resources available to the commanders and their distribution. Secondly, the command staff in the first critical 24 hours most of the real command staff was out of place and not prepared to deal with this resulting landing at a place some people did not accept as being real.

Neither Germany in Normandy nor Japan in Midway lacked imagination. Their underwhelming resources that meant they had to get it right in a "single decisive day or decisive blow" - Yamamoto in Midway and von Runstedt/Rommel in Normandy

If Omaha Beach had been saturation bombed in the same manner as the saturation bombing of the later Operation Cobra before troops were landed, the US troop casualties could have been minimized for the beach assault.

nice documentary, and yes the numbers the allies were capable of producing germany couldnt match, superior machinery but not near enough of them, and yes it was a brilliant plan the allies formulated, you should do one that includes the Liberty ships, rather in general, naval superiority , you covered air power in this video brilliantly, those same planes went on into germany to bombard germany war machine production , successfully, costing many air casualties and prisoners, again nice work, its my idea that the factory remained in the USA, shipped products and fuel to Britain, easy from there after beach head is secure and port built by concrete caisons , what was on the beach and coast was a garage/ warehouse structure in your industrial machine, dont forget weapons, uniforms all being produced, food, all USA, the actual factory, many Liberty Ships were produced on the west coast as well as east, many were sunk

Imagine if the pilots trusted the radar system and successfully dropped the bombs on the machine guns

US paid the debt to the French for their invaluable aid during the Revolutionary War. They came to our aid to defeat the greatest military power on earth at the time. We returned the favor 170 years later.
