“But in terms of business mistakes that I’ve seen over a long lifetime, I would say that trying to minimize taxes too much is one of the great standard causes of really dumb mistakes. I see terrible mistakes from people being overly motivated by tax considerations.” Charlie Munger

If I open a trust where I am both the trustee and the beneficiary and then open a pty that is owned by the trust would I have an issue with SARS saying that the assets accumulated within the pty are still owned by me as an individual as I both control an benefit from the assets still?

My question is, does the foreign business owners pay any tax or vat? My dad knows a Bangladeshi businessman buying properties cash in cape town. He says he pays zero tax. These guys are scoring while we losing big time.

But, at this rate I think it is safe to say that SARS is the greediest of us all😮😮 ... I mean it is always just taking from us even beyond the grave😅

So if a family invests primarily in shares you will be paying 45% CGT on all draws from this trust structure whereas if in personal name the draws are taxed at max 18% and approx 40% when someone dies. Seems better off to at least most of the time be taxed at 18%. Is this trust game just a complex trap for FI’s to extract more fees??

Question: why wont you put your house your living in, into the trust? Wont it be good if for instance you have a business, to secure your house in a trust from a business failure?
