  French admirer of Hugo here. I appreciate your work. You left apart some interesting facts about Hugo’s private life. As early as 1830 his wife had an affair with author Sainte-Beuve, one of Victor’s friends. From 1833 Victor himself had a lifelong mistress, the actress Juliette Drouet, until her death in 1893. Victor had a number of affairs during his life. Also, his last child, Adèle, born in 1830, suffered from mental disorders and was sent to psychiatric hospital from 1873. She died in 1915. There is a 1975 movie by François Truffaut, titled "L’Histoire d’Adèle H" starring Isabelle Adjani, about this sad story.

  I live in Taiwan and visited Victor Hugo's home this past June. Les Mis has been my most favorite story since 1980s. I admire Hugo's immense feelings for humanity, advocating the positive values that this world is currently in need of. The visit to Hugo's home made my last trip to Paris invaluable.

  I am from Pune, India. I am 78 now. I heard the name Victor Hugo and his two books mentioned since my childhood. While in school in 1960s we had a lesson from his work Les Misrabla translated in my local language. Since then I had a curiosity about this famous author.
