  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxUKMLHJbFo&amp;t=105">1:45</a> as many other have said, AWP is Arctic Warfare Police, but more interesting than the name is the origin story: the British armed forces wanted a new sniper rifle, so they held a contest for weapon manufacturers. Literal 3 guys in a shed made one (called Precision Marksman) and submitted it as a joke. They won and suddenly had to figure out how to mass produce it. After some time they revised the design to make it more reliable and easier to use, especially in harsh conditions and low temperatures, which is why they renamed it Arctic Warfare. It&apos;s generally seen as an excellent far away pew pew stick.
