  This is the exact recipe how my 96 year old Aunt ( R.I.P.) used to to make. The only difference was she put nuts on the top.  I have to tell you, she never timed her cooking process. I asked her how long do you cook it.  She said it was done when you see the first puff of smoke, then immediately take it off the burner. This never fails. Every time I make it I think of her and miss her.❤

  Melissa is the best photographer! Slow zooms and pans, I never got dizzy once! <br>Cute story:<br>My grandmother used to send this to us in the &apos;60s. She would send a very large box that would not fit in the mailbox. The mailman would happily bring it to the door, take one last long, longing sniff and reluctantly hand it over. She actually put chocolate on both sides.🤤 It was so hard to resist! Thank you for sharing the recipe and process. Merry Christmas!

  I love that you use penny colour to demonstrate. Usually in candy making they are all about a candy thermometer. Not everyone has one hanging in their kitchen. I’m making it this week

  I miss my parents always but more so this time of year. My father would ask me to always put up their tree and decorate it. 🎄He would tell me how to do things while in his recliner. My mother loved to cook and bake. She would make at least 7 large trays of lasagna for Christmas Day. I love you always mom &amp; dad. 🙂🦋❤️

I really like how you set out all the ingredients on the counter and then talked about the measurements as you described each one….. and the color demonstration with the penny was perfection!   My mom and I used to make this together. That is, after several batches of peanut brittle, and two of caramels. It was a relief to get to the toffee because it was so easy and I knew I could say I needed to go home. Otherwise, that old woman would work me to death! I lost her at almost 93, and miss her horribly.

  Another surefire gauge for toffee doneness is an ordinary brown paper grocery bag. Keep it nearby - but not too near the heat - and when the candy has cooked to the point that it’s the same color as the bag, it’s done and ready to pour out. Works every time!

  A real good way to clean a candy pot is put a few cups of water in it, put on a lid and bring it to a boil. let it boil a few minutes then empty and wash.

  The best homemade candy I&apos;ve ever had came from my neighbor who grew up in PA Dutch country around Scranton. She used to put a tray in her back bedroom window for her son to pass out to us when we were kids. Cider Vinegar taffy.
