  I grew up with this man. He was good friends with my grandparents. I am very lucky to have heard these stories while I was still young. He has inspired me the determination to never stop fighting.

  Hearing Dutch survivors as an American is very powerful, because the Dutch language is similar in sound (not structure) to English, and this means Dutch who immigrate to America rarely have much of an accent, and this makes the story very powerful. It makes it seem more immediate and personal to us Americans, especially given his acquired southern accent. It makes it seem as if it could truly happen here, and makes it feel like one of my own grandparents are speaking of their own childhood. This really wasn’t very long ago, and it’s crucial for us to realize that fully.

  ♥ Hearing this sweet man talk about his mom &amp; dad and siblings. His mother cry they took his dad. My heart breaks. I wish I could hug him. I&apos;m so sorry sir as a Christian person or just as a human being this &amp; all survivor stories break my heart. &nbsp;When I am down overwhelmed or SAD I listen to the survivor stories for courage &amp; strength. &nbsp;<br>We will never forget!
