My Mom refinished thrown away furniture and she did it because she hated to see good things thrown away. She gave them to people who needed furniture, she even reupholstered chairs. I spent many hours of my childhood at her elbow.
I am by nature crafty, I learned how to use a sewing machine before I hit my 10th birthday. I’m pushing hard at 70 and I spend most days in my sewing room making quilts and other useful things.
My sewing room was the attic in our house built in 1840, when houses had big attics. My Dad added insulation and drywall, turning it into a bedroom, my bedroom.
I moved away but came back to care for Mom, she’s gone now but my sewing room is that same attic bedroom. There were so many memories here that my husband and I will never leave our old house that my Mom and Dad bought when Mom was still in her teens!
We will probably never leave, like Grandpa, Dad, and Mom…until it our time is done here on earth.
God bless you for doing what you do and bringing all these lovely memories to me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
♥️👍🙏

You're the third restorer I follow who used to work in healthcare. Flipping Drawers and Olive Street did too.

My dad was a carpenter and shipwright. He built clinker dinghies by hand. I loved hanging out in his workshop and can remember the smell of the wood shavings and varnish like it was yesterday. I don't have a workshop but I have all his tools. It's a dream. One day. Thanks for your videos Barry.

Barry, you weave a compelling story with your restoration in each video. I appreciate the skill with which you accomplish both!

I like the simplicity of this finish. The light color is a refreshing change of pace.

Love that you didn't stain it. Looks beautiful. Also love that you gave it to your neighbor.

So glad to see another furniture piece saved. The older well-built pieces are so much more beautiful than the ones that are bought at most big-box stores. Great job!!
