Nugget Title: Assassin FL Is Sweeter Than Her Lookalike "Sister"
This one is a keeper. It's a different take of the Sister Substitute Marriage trope. The plot also has some unique twists, especially how the evil Prince plotted against the less-evil (lol) Crown Prince. And then, they threw in a final plot twist that gave it the absolute fairy ending but I'll take it.
PLOT
FL was a top assassin ordered to kill FL2 on her wedding. However, on the day when she entered the room, FL2 had hanged herself and was lying on the bed. AND FL DISCOVERED THEY LOOKED ALIKE. FL2's mother ran in and after the initial shock, assessed the situation and told FL she must be her long lost daughter whom she'd been searching for all these years. Even though FL assured her mother that FL2 was still alive and just needed to recuperate, her mother requested the FL to substitute her sister in marriage because it was decreed by the Emperor and if FL2's suicide was publicized, the Emperor would surely order the whole family's execution for disobedience. The maids knelt down and begged the FL in panic.

FL figured this was possibly the only way for her to get out of her assassin life--to be recognized by her mother and to live a quiet life. Her mother agreed once FL2 was better, there would be a substitution and FL would leave to have a nice quiet life with the family. Off FL went off in her marriage sedan. When the parents were seeing the sedan off, FL's father asked the mother when did they have another daughter and the latter replied, "Never. I lied." Dun-dun-dun.

Back at the FL Prince's mansion, his subordinate told him his wife didn't die from the suicide and was here. ML was interested in this substitute. He showed up in the marriage chambers in his wheelchair. During the wedding night, he tested our FL. She showed unusual interest in odd things, like the precious jewelry in her head. She also didn't seem very shy in bed. There was a calmness and strength about her that intrigued him.

During the next few days, our FL constantly surprised the ML. She showed up with herbs to help cure his legs. In reality, he was also hiding behind a weak facade because of palace intrigue, so he refused her offer to "heal" him. Everything about the fake Wangfei was interesting to him, including her little streak of (hidden) violence. There was an amusing scene during the "Return Home to Visit Parents" tradition where the FL was walking into her old room to meet her sister's lover with a big kitchen chopper.

FL was determined to find the reason for her sister's suicide. Apparently, there was a lover and she was going to kill the guy to eliminate this problem, LOL. She figured, once this lover was gone, her sister would just make the switch and live happily as the Wangfei. People arriving too quickly gave this "lover" an escape. ML was amused as he watched and participated in his wife's odd little scheme.

In the days that followed, FL discovered the lover situation wasn't as simple as it looked. In another meetup, she injured the masked man in an attempt to find out his identity. Again, he managed to escape. This time, though, she suspected this lover was one of the Emperor's sons (ML was a prince, but not of the direct descendant). There were three princes. FL was smart--testing and weighing all three persons when she met them. Although everything pointed to the Crown Prince being the culprit, the real bad guy was Prince Rui, who put on a mask to seduce young noble ladies and prostitutes. Prince Rui was pretending to be the Crown Prince while ruining these girls' reputation. This was, of course, a long scheme to remove the Crown Prince once the latter's "dastardly" behavior was discovered.

Meanwhile, the ML continued watching the FL and was slowly getting attracted to this strange girl. She was going about calmly handling many difficult situations, unknowingly solving his problems (she was just being a sleuth). Things came to a head when FL's "mother" brought her "sister" with a Mission Impossible maid mask so they could make a switch. FL was fine with it.

But ML wasn't. No one was going to replace HIS Wangfei without his permission! So he made love to his wife in front of the maid, behaving intimately with her to make the "sister" uncomfortable. FL2 certainly was, but what could she do? When FL had convinced her that her lover was NOT the Crown Prince, there was no out for her. She had to make the switch and live her life as the ML's wife. This was kind of hilarious because observing the loving intimacy between her fake sister FL with the ML, the 2FL now realized SHE had to be her sister's substitute. LOL.

Again, ML was having none of this replacement stuff. He was watching his wife like a hawk. And he kept trying to make her stay by being loving and intimate with her. The push-and-pull of the relationship made it hard for the FL because she did have feelings for him. However, she also didn't want her sister 2FL to suffer. There was another problem. Being an assassin, she depended on an antidote to the poison fed to her. Without it, she would first lose her five senses and then gradually painfully weaken and waste away. She needed to go back to HQ to get it (I'm assuming she was planning to steal it since she now wanted a normal life as part of her mother's family).

Did I say ML was having NONE of this? Yeah, he wasn't. Imagine his fury when he discovered the FL really managed to trick him with the substitute change. His ruthlessness came out then. His threats to the mother and FL2 got them to reveal the truth about the substitution scheme.

Meanwhile, our FL was lonely outside without something she'd gotten used to: family stuff like a maid and warm bath and a kind and hot hubby. She was also weakened from lack of the antidote and thus was easily captured by the evil Prince Rui. He planned to take her back to the HQ for punishment. For the first time, FL realized the master of her master was Prince Rui...whom she'd been wanting to kill LOL. His scheme to be Crown Prince was definitely a lot more layered than she'd thought.

However, back at HQ, another twist was taking place. ML was waiting. FL found out even more shocking truths about the Imperial Family. She was, of course, very calm about the whole thing. Even with a third of her strength, she managed to beat up on stupid Rui Wang. ML reunited with the FL and they finally had that long awaited chat about the truth.

We have ONE more big reveal. It's right near the end. Don't miss it. And oh, happy ending for our couple.
****
Final Thoughts
This drama proves that a story doesn't need rebirths or revenge or family slice-of-life to be riveting. The assassin wanting normalcy was very well done here. She kept betraying herself with her lack of simple noble lady knowledge and her calmness and this kind of innocence was alluring to both me and the ML. I like her directness and the simple way she solved problems--just go kill or yank off the bandaid to see what's there.

I also thought Prince Rui's scheme quite unique compared to the usual C-Drama palace political shenanigans. His pretending to the Crown Prince to ruin the latter's reputation with lechery made me laugh. The last twist with the FL's background also made me snicker. It's such a coincidence, LOL, but in a way, it was a good way to end it because it all started with the Crown Prince's first scheme all that long ago.
