  I once heard an American doctor give a perfect summary of the US healthcare system. His exact words were: "People are complaining about how the system is broken, but it's not. It's working exactly as intended, it just never was intended to benefit the patient."

  As a child living in the UK I used to dream about living in America, now as an adult I am fearful that we are following in their footsteps 😞

  I'm Italian, my father had a terrible car accident a few years ago, 25 broken bones, a spinal fracture and a punctured lung. The firefighters worked for more than an hour to free him from the car, then he was loaded onto a helicopter and taken to hospital where he remained in intensive care for 17 days in danger of life, during this period he underwent surgery on his spine and they applied a titanium plate with 8 screws. Then he remained for another 3 days under observation and was transferred to another hospital where he remained in rehabilitation for 55 days and for the next 2 years he did rehabilitation 2 times a week. We didn't pay anything. My father is 75 years old, walks on his own two feet and enjoys his retirement. Thank you thank you thank you to the Italian healthcare system and to all the healthcare staff who were extraordinary and literally saved my father's life without asking for anything.

  When Michael Moore made his documentary Sicko, he sent a filmcrew to Norway to interview norwegians about our healtcare system. My family was interviewed because one of my sisters got cancer when she was 8, so we had extensive experience with our healthcare system. I didn´t want to be on camera, so I watched the interview from behind the camera. When the documentary was released I scanned through it several times looking for this interview, but I could not find it. I was obviously quite dissappointed about this. About a year later I saw an interview with Michael Moore explaining that they had to cut out everything about Norway from the documentary because they judged that no american would belive this. So they settled by showing the less impressive french healthcare system. The problem was that americans didn´t believe this either...

  I still remember I got an American colleague who just migrated. He got sick so we all said he should go home. He refused as he didn&apos;t want to spend his &quot;sick days.&quot; We spent a good 3 hours explaining to him that we don&apos;t have this concept of sick days. If you&apos;re sick, you are sick and you get full paid time to get better. You won&apos;t get fired, you don&apos;t get less paid. Just get better as quickly as possible.<br><br>The guy literally couldn&apos;t believe what he was hearing and almost started to cry.

  My husband got kidney cancer, went to emergency was diagnosed that evening, spent a night in a private room. I picked him up the next day, he was booked a follow up consult and and operation was set for three weeks by a top surgeon with a first time key hole surgery, his kidney was removed. He spent a week in hospital and never paid a cent. Thank you Australia 🥰

  I live in Germany and yes, I thought I knew about the poor healthcare in America. I did not know it. I&apos;m really speechless right now and can&apos;t understand how a person can just get fired like that, take a day off because they&apos;re sick, weigh up their life and go to the doctor because it&apos;s so expensive. &nbsp;Now she&apos;s dead? I know Germany pays a lot of taxes on everything and everyone and sometimes I can&apos;t believe my eyes how much taxes are deducted from my salary. &nbsp;But all these taxes give me the free time to go to any doctor I want, let my daughter go to any school for free, secure my pension, my insurance, even a lawyer or still be able to live and work very well as a single parent. I&apos;m thankfull.

  This was painful. &nbsp;As long as the people at the top can keep convincing people in the middle that the problem is the people at the bottom things won&apos;t change.

  This is what is missing from the attitude of many people today.<br>&quot;I was wrong&quot; is not a weakness. <br>&quot;I was misinformed&quot; is not something to be ashamed of. <br>&quot;They lied to me&quot; is not saying you were submissive. <br>&quot;I believed them&quot; does not mean your opinion is now worthless.

  I&apos;m from an Eastern European country. My sister gave birth in a hosptal and stayed there for three days with the baby. Then, an asigned pediatric nurse made home visits for ten days straight. No charge for any of this.

  When Covid hit, we were sent home from our jobs. After a couple months, my employer stopped paying for my health care and instead sent me a bill to pay if I wanted to keep it. Being unable to work, that extra expense was crippling and eventually I had to stop paying for it and lost my health care. So, in the middle of a pandemic my health care was gone. When I did get Covid, going to the doctor was no longer an option. My health care system at that point was to lay in bed sick and hope. My working has probably put about $150,000 into health insurance over the years, but when I need it it’s no where to be found. This system is a scam and we are the ones paying for it
