Curious how big of a deal you think it is if a beneficiary name is missing from the irrevocable trust due to a scanner error? My spouses FIL created an irrevocable trust for their 2 kids (my spouse and his sister in 2009). My spouse asked the Trustee to see it and his name is missing from it! First page got sucked in wrong in the scanner so the very bottom of page 1 says, "At present The Grantor has 2 children, Jane Doe, DOB XXX, and" and the last line and page # got cut off. Trustee says that's the only copy they have. The attorney who created it is not identified anywhere on the document. Trustee doesn't think this is an issue. We are thinking it's a very big deal and can cause problems for years down the line but have no examples of how. We doubt our FIL who's in his late 80's is going to know where the original wet signature version is or remember what attorney he used. Plus the 1 in a million chance of an illegitimate son crawling out of the woodwork and saying he's the other son...

I'm confused - since my parents created a living trust, and one page says that I have power of attorney to sell their properties when they die. Yet, as I now understand it, power of attorney ends with the principal. Did they see an incompetent attorney who was misusing the concept of "power of attorney"? Or is the trust itself the new principal?
