As someone who’s read the books repeatedly for 40 years, I have to say this video gets everything right about Herbert’s intent. A+. I hope you and your channel go far.

It was awesome that I found this five minutes after finishing Dune 2 for the first time.

Herbert was a journalist. His books contained his experiences: a little bit of everything, a clear eye on those that draw attention and awe: the charismatic and powrful. And he saw it with no bullshit.

Ultimately Paul and Leto II are a necessary evil to stop the ultimate threat thousands of years in the future

We are still rooting for Paul. The Emperor fucked around and found out. The War wasn't started by Paul but by the other great houses.

I’m not surprised some readers and movie goers didn’t get it.

Tell me how I’m supposed to perceive Paul as being a flawed leader if his entire story is about finding a way to avoid the future everyone was pushing him towards?

I just started reading messiah and in the first few chapters Paul summarizes his problem. His entire life was dictated to him and he lost his free will being given prescience. He also has no control of the fanatics inspired by his name and is unable to escape the atrocities they commit with it. It’s a tragedy because Paul is a hero and debatably doing only what he can do with what he has. The problem is exactly what Frank highlights, people throwing away personal responsibility to follow and pin their actions on their leaders.
