problem is, if you're in the market for $2000 vehicles, they're all going to have a burning transmission and bad brakes. sometimes u are better off sinking 2k into ur 2k car.

Tell the Customer park this in the barn and wait about 40 years. There will be a YouTube video, “I found a cherry 2006 Ford 500. Will it run and drive 600 miles home?“

I think that a transmission replacement is better than a car payment. I will do a compression check if it is good on all cylinders then I would replace the transmission.

I have driven a few cars in the same state as the old Ford. I go easy on the throttle, say a real prayer, and smile as my 200,000 mile car putters along.

Friend of mine had a ford 500 with the same issue, we changed the fluid and put a full bottle of Lucas in the trans and it seemed to work well for another 2 years, eventually got a new car!

I think what killed this car is the owner. Using 11 years old tires say probably a lot about owner and his attitude to servicing.

This car is perfect for a high school shop donation. The car is then repaired for learning purposes and maybe a high school student gets their first car.

Unless there's irreparable rust or electrical issues, I'm replacing whatever i can to keep it running. Car payments suck.

Another way to look at this issue is replacement cost. I get it that it may ot be the smartest thing to do to put $5000 into a $3000 car, But, when the cost to replace the car can be $10K, $20K, or $30K depending on needs and taste, this introduces another consideration.

I frequently hear the statement “the repairs will cost more than the car is worth”. This may be true, however, that would only apply if the owner intends to sell the car immediately after the repair. If the owner keeps the vehicle and continues to drive it after the repair, they could very likely get the value of the repair out of that car in usage, especially if the rest of the car is intact. Also, if you’ve owned the car and maintained it, you know what you have. If you junk it rather than repair it and replace with a similar vintage vehicle, you never know what you are getting.
I’ve always gone into expensive repairs thinking that if I can get another 10,000 miles out of the car for each 1,000 in repairs, it is well worth it.
Thanks for the interesting videos. I learn a lot from you and Hoovie while being entertained.

Id rather put money into a car that has gained my trust and showed me its worth it VS a fat monthly car note and full coverage on said new car.

It’s always sad when you buy a car new, care for it for 15-20 years, basically raise a family in it, and then send it out to pasture. Looking at my 250,000 mile 09 Fusion. Still looks, runs, and shifts great, but there will be that day. They do become part of the family. It’s worth only $1000 but it’s priceless to me.
