Cant beat a rhubarb crumble. We had a big clump in the garden when i were a lad, we would pick a stalk and dip in a paper bag of sugar from mum. Didnt do my teeth much good but good memories. Just bought a canada red crown, planted as per instructions, cant wait 😊

I had no idea about growing Rhubarb or that the season had already began, so early. In a way, it is very similar to Asparagus. Thankyou fo all this information. The UK is not quite the same as a Vor-Alpine climate.

I started my Rhubarb from seed last winter without knowing anything about it. I was frustrated by the yield and chucked the root (now I know it’s a rhizome) into the compost. I was amazed to see it popping up out of the compost bin mid/later winter. It really is an interesting plant. I recovered it from the heap and now it’s really taking off 😉

I live in Canada where the spring is quite a bit later than yours. My friend has been growing rhubarb but ii is languishing. It was transplanted the fall of 2022 and it wasn't allowed to grow without harvest. That is probably the biggest issue we have. Maybe I will start a plant in a pot and allow it to grow without disturbance for this year, though it will have started growing when I put it in the pot. Gardening sure requires patience sometimes!! Not always easy when the desired plant is a favourite to eat. Thank you so much for your insights and directions. Clear and concise! All the best to you!

I’ve been making rhubarb and strawberry overnight oats the last few weeks - love it!! When I stew down my rhubarb I strain off and further reduce the syrupy liquid (for anyone new to cooking with rhubarb add 1-2cups of water, 1/2-1cup sugar and a few stems of chopped rhubarb to pan and simmer gently until softened) then allow the drained rhubarb and syrup to cool completely then store in the fridge 👍🏼
For my oats I use a recycled takeaway container - Add the oats, some natural yogurt, a dash of milk then chopped strawberries, a good dollop of rhubarb and then mix together, sprinkle a couple of white chocolate chips on top for a treat and a drizzle of the reduced rhubrb syrup, leave over night in the fridge and enjoy the next day! 🙌🏼 deeelish! 😊
And thanks for the video!! 🙌🏼

Thank you for the overview on rhubarb. You might like a cake recipe I have -- put cut rhubarb on bottom of a 13 x 8 inch pan. Sprinkle red jello over it along with some sugar (maybe a cup) plus little marshmallows. Prepare a yellow or white cake mix and pour over the top. Bake at 350 F. for about 50 mins. Serve by flipping over pieces ("upside down" cake) with whipped cream. Yum. Another reason to get ours started in the yard.

I was concerned becuz our rhubarb start (still in pot) -- one of the leaves has died -- turned red and dried up. Hopefully, not the end of our start as it's high summer and not quite time for planting it. Wish us luck. -- D. in Reno, NV
