The important thing to note is that the GOAL is to accumulate points, NOT to 'defeat the opponent.' That is an absolutely significant thing to note.

What's best about the Tit for Tat strategy is that its aim is to gain coins as many as possible instead of getting more coins than your opponent. Clear goal.
