The actual jumpscare wasn't Valorant, it is that 2019 is as far away from now as 2014 was from 2020.

19:06 it’s disappointing that Covid forced so many new and innovative ideas to basically be rendered useless, ironic the tournament is called flashpoint.

Flashpoint unironically was a fun watch for me, it didn't compare to pro league or etc for a reason, but I DO think it is a huge reason why our casters and production nowadays tend to have a lot more fun with their jobs, rather than being "all business" as things used to be (for the most part) Take that one VP vs M80 game on Dust 2 for example, the entire match is Harry and Hugo crashing out over VP looking so good on map one, and then looking so BAD on map two, the observer trolling the casters with third person cam on Perfecto specifically like 5 times, and etc. Easily the funniest match I have seen in recent time. I think flashpoint did show the scene that it is ok to have fun a little.

it's so funny to see these entirely unknown NA CSGO teams pop up for a second or two and recognise one or two names on each from the very top of Valorant lol. Zellsis on Swole Patrol, dapr and crashies on Bad News Bears, s0m and the rest was mentioned directly by phy as well...

honestly the production quality was certainly there. there just was no need for another top tier tournament at the time. If flashpoint was made a couple of years earlier it might have worked out well

I'm actually gonna go against the popular narrative here. I think Flashpoint was actually great for the scene, and unfortunately was held back by the massive buy-ins and not enough teams actually agreeing to sign with them. Since no one had any guarantee of others commiting to the league, no one wanted to pay the huge buy-in and that hurt them. Classic "I don't go if you don't go" where no one actually ends up doing the thing. That's how you get an MIBR vs Mad Lions final.

I would have loved to see more teams sign with Flashpoint. I especially remember ESL deleting EPL spots for lower ranked teams that legitimately qualified for no valid reason back when Flashpoint was introduced, and I was really pro Flashpoint because of this. Thorin's content for them was really good too imo, and I'm pretty sure TOs got inspired from that kind of content to make the breaks we have in-between maps today.

TL;DR, I think Flashpoint gets too much shit. It suffered from too little elite teams participating, but in itself I think it was great.

Flashpoint 1's final statistics at 17:53 actually look not that bad compared to ESL's at 18:03, the difference is not as severe as what you would expect from difference of team rosters alone.
But then you realize that the comparable peak viewership is owed to the entire nation of Brazil watching the Grand Final, and the average viewership and hours watched were largely hard carried by Thorin and boosted by the novelty factor.

Part 2 covering Flashpoint season 2 won't be complete without Nip 40% packet loss complaint vs their match against Anonymo. Forcing a rematch day after.

Kinda just seems like ESL and blast did very best to prevent flash point from being bigger, poaching teams, players, planning events right on top of flash point events, giving auto bids to top 12 teams so that flashpoint couldn’t enact their contracts. Seems very wack to me

It’s so funny seeing so many future Valorant people (like Potter 13:06, future EG Valorant coach) in Flashpoint. It’s like it was so bad that it made them just leave entirely 😂
