I love the Rabbi. I wish his book name would be "Permission to Know". We Jews we don't believe, we KNOW. Emunah doesn't mean believe it means firmness.

As an Agnostic I always keep an open mind I'm neither out to prove nor disprove whatever is is whatever is not is not All theisms throughout human history are based and derived from World Mythology No exceptions Mythology is very powerful in the human psyche because something would be nice don't make it so No one is coming to rescue humanity No 1st coming No 2nd coming No any comings the Intelligent Design Hypothesis is a totally separate topic which many people confuse ID is a possibility among a multitude of possibilities Natural Processes is another both theories neither have been proven nor disproven the known universe is what our latest technology and equipment can observe and measure what's beyond that is all speculation what boggles the mind is how theists regardless of their own specific theology will be 1 part of World Mythology and acknowledge it as such being Mythology yet take another part of World Mythology and attempt to argue that as literal truths that's neither rational nor logical I support everyone's right and freedom to believe whatever they wish or not to believe Freedom of Freedom from that's what freedom is all about here in America we have separation of church and state No sensible person would want to live under a theocracy on a totally separate topic I'm calling for a Posthumous exoneration Immediately for the late beautiful Barbara Graham Innocent framed setup railroaded from jump time to correct a horrible miscarriage of justice 70 yrs+ that's what morality is all about Babs always sweetheart ❤❤

I've always viewed the Sinai mass revelation argument as weak, because it rests on a false dichotomy. It frames the only options as: either someone invents the claim on the spot to a live crowd (which would fail instantly), or someone shows up centuries later claiming your ancestors witnessed it (which Rabbi Keleman would also instantly reject as absurd).

But there's a third option it doesn't address: gradual legendary accretion. National origin stories can grow organically over generations — starting more modest or ambiguous, then expanding — without any single moment where someone has to "sell" a finished claim to a skeptical crowd. This is actually the mainstream view among critical historians: a smaller group's experiences may have merged into a larger population's shared memory over centuries, with the story growing and solidifying with each retelling. Nobody has to be "fooled" at one sitting for that process to happen.

The argument also leans heavily on the idea that any false claim would definitely have been challenged and remembered as such along the chain of transmission. But that assumes a level of reliable record-keeping and continuous, tightly-preserved oral tradition that low-literacy, tribal societies over hundreds of years generally didn't have. Dissenting or alternate versions could simply fade rather than survive as a "gotcha."

In short: the argument correctly notices that personal revelation is easier to fake than mass revelation in the moment. But it doesn't actually rule out gradual mythologization over generations, which is the explanation most historians of religion would offer instead.
