Understand the crisis of João Appolinário's company, the closure of stores, and the request for judicial reorganization filed in 2024, with approximately R$ 352 million in debt. In this documentary from Conhecimento Disruptivo, we investigate the history of Polishop and the business model that transformed television demonstrations into a billion-dollar operation. The company grossed R$2 billion in 2016 and reached 280 stores at its peak, connecting TV commercials, telephone sales, e-commerce, and shopping malls. But this story has a paradox: Polishop had been selling online since 2000. Even so, according to the company, its revenue fell by about 70% during the pandemic. Why was a company so experienced in selling remotely so vulnerable to the closure of physical stores? The video analyzes the weight of rents, inventory, and advertising, the competition from marketplaces, and the difficulty of maintaining exclusive products. It also follows the trajectory of João Appolinário, known from Shark Tank Brazil, and the demands placed on the founder during the crisis. Did Polishop go bankrupt? We explain the difference between judicial reorganization and bankruptcy, negotiations with creditors, and the challenges to rebuilding an operation capable of paying its bills.
