REALLY enjoyed this video—thanks for the geo-travelogue. I’m a geologist, was pleased to hear you mention the San Andreas fault and plate tectonics. The rocks you were climbing on were originally laid down flat, probably at the bottom of a shallow body of water. The Sandy-limy sediment solidified, and then was tumbled by the movement of the North American and Pacific plates as they crushed against each other, forming the San Andreas fault. A really jumbled random spectacular landscape that is in the so-called “crush zone” between those two major tectonic plates that are on either side of it. I’ve been out there, but have never climbed it, so thank you for that. It makes a great movie background. I looked up your video after I saw the beginning to the 1931 Dracula movie tonight, and I think you covered the location shoot issue pretty well. Anyway, thanks again and I’ll be looking in on you from time to time. Best regards.

I'll be darned. I thought Dracula was 100% studio shot, but there's no question that shot is Vasquez Rocks. Thank you!

That is so cool!! I always assumed it was a back drop on a soundstage. It's cool that fans of that movie have a legit place they can visit.

I have seen those rock formations in Star Trek and I have always been fascinated with them. One day I will go to the top

Vasquez Rocks are visually stunning, ground level, and from on high. I enjoy how you take pains to find and simulate the same camera angles from the movies, and especially incorporating the mat-painting of Borgo Pass from Dracula. Those extras make your vlogs outstanding and anticipated. Besides countless westerns, the rocks also served as the Planet Mongo in the 1930's Flash Gordon serials.

The Werewolf of London scene where Dr. Yogami attacked Dr. Glendon was filmed at that same location. Thanks for the tour.
