The biggest compliment for any songwriter is to have many people cover their song. It's a testament to how great producers thought the song was.

We in the U.S. grew up listening to Casey Kasem’s weekly Top 40 countdown. I think it was syndicated in another 30 countries IIRC. We never felt lied to because he was all about the trivia, and always said when a song was a remake and when the original was released. So we just saw it as one of the truths about the music industry.

We always felt that it must have been really good to get covered/remade. Many times he would play the original version as well. Great music exposure in the 80’s!

Songwriters make more money for writing when a song hits than the performer. A big bonus if your own version didn’t get there.

We older people grew up knowing that Songwriters are a necessary part of the music industry. Vocalists interpret the lyrics and musicians flesh out the melodies. If you can do it all good for you but it’s north expected

Lol I’m not sure this is a reaction to which songs are covers as much as it is your learning about the concept of cover songs for the first time 😂💛

I don't mind when a band covers a song. The songwriter gets paid.
I do mind when someone steals a rift and tries to pass it off as theirs.

You should check out the artist Patti Smith. Popular songs such as Smells Like Teen Spirits, Everybody Wants 2 Rule The World, Gloria, & Because The Night were all written & performed by her.
