I find meaning in the game's narrative as a dialogue between Christian theology and an Alchemical/Kabbalistic/Gnostic worldview.

Like, grafting is a major metaphor for the Christian. In Romans 11, the Apostle Paul compares the Christian body as "wild branches" which are grafted on to the "roots of an olive tree," where the olive tree represents those united in the faith, worship, and a covenant with the Christian God. And it isn't that the Christians replace the Jewish people, where the national of Israel is symbolized as a fig tree, but rather can be grafted and includes because of the Jewish people rejecting and crucifying Jesus Christ. Funny enough, there is a crucified hornsent Jesus figure in the Shadowland store house.

But, food is very prevalent in the bible. As a part the sacrifices made to God by the priest class after Moses received the law, there are these golden plates and vessels/cup which were used to present offering. Bread of the Presence is this offering of bread.

So, in the Book of Daniel there is this Neo-Babylonian king, Belshazzar. Belshazzar is a decendent of Nebuchadnezzar, who would have conquered the Kingdom of Judah and raid the temple of the golden plates and vessels used to sacrifice food to God. Belshazzar uses those vessels to drink wine during a feast to praise the pagan gods. This a great affront to God and God manifest a disembodied human hand and this hand writes out a message in a light from a lamp shining on a wall. None of the magicians or astrologers of Belshazzar can read the message and only Daniel, the loyal prophet of God, can read the message, which is that the days of his kingdom are numbered. But, the other part of this story is how God cursed Nebuchadnezzar for his arrogance to go mad and live like a beast in the fields eating grass like an animal. Like how Radahn goes mad and acts like an animal. We never hear Radahn speak and I'll view him as representing the unrelenting animalistic appetites/desires.

Idk. The tooth whip item made me think there is a significance to food in the narrative of Elden Ring and I've been trying to note biblical symbolize around food.

I definitely enjoyed your video. Organizing the significance of the game's lore and narrative around a central category is a good strategy. Bodies is really good. The concept of a "Golden Age" is also very useful.

Have a good one

Pretty sure the horns of the omen and hornsent are a reference to Moses's fabled horns.

He can't become a true god in the ER sense, but, to put it in D&D terms, the Night of Black Knives turned him into a zombie with "divine rank: 0" which functionally created undeath in the ER setting by creating a (lesser) deity of it.

this is a really cool take, I dont know why I didnt see the central theme of bodies. you should talk about how the tarnished can remake their image through renallas rune too

Excellent piece. It’s one of those things I never thought of, but once you point it out, I feel stupid for not having realized it earlier. I think the grotesqueness of the chopped off fingers, for example, put me off from thinking about the character design’s obvious implications. Funny, I always thought of grotesque imagery as simple and base, not as a mask to make the apparent subtle.

years ago, I asked on another channel, if Radagon could be like the soul of cinder, all the champions who were given erdtree burial. But someone replied and brought up D and his brother, how they are 1 soul with 2 bodies and 2 minds. This has stuck with me ever since, and it made me wonder what happens when a split soul has children. But it also made me think of how Ranni and Godwyn are both affected by the black knife. If D who shares a body got hit by a similar knife, would his shared soul or body burn too?
