  A few addendums! <br><br>Wait, why WAS Avatar Sonam’s becoming a world “peacekeeper” not seen as an issue? Man, evil Sonam would’ve been great. I was hoping that Tagah would revive her, and realize the Avatar he adored was a monster, and would fight with Aang and ultimately sacrifice himself to defeat her. It’d be so sad. And it’d force Aang to REALLY feel like the Last Airbender. <br><br>So, apparently, the Deprived were in some Avatar comic? Guess you had to read the comic to understand who they are and enjoy their use in this film or you’re out of luck. Sorry!<br><br>They say that Aang couldn’t earthbend up the mountain because the mountain was spiritually sealed…well, that’s another silly lore addition. You can spiritually seal a mountain? Why not the air, or an ocean? Also…he was bending handholds, so…like, not fully sealed? If he entered the Avatar state, would he have enough power to bend up? Only creates more questions.

  This movie was largely action sequences connected together by bullet points. No room to breathe. No room to feel.

  It&apos;s clear to me that this was a movie made for the fans of ATLA, because imo it can&apos;t stand on it&apos;s own. But at the same time, a good deal of the problems it faced was from the fact that it was a sequel to the original series. Many of the characters were blatantly absent, felt watered down and were disappointing, because we knew what they originally were like. The movie never shows any non-bender discrimination in the movie, so regular viewers had even less reason to side with &quot;The Denied&quot;. There&apos;s obviously nothing wrong with making a movie for fans of the IP, but it just felt like they never fully committed

  I do largely disagree with some of your points but this is a well made video with clear and percise issues which did get me thinking.

  The writers were the original Creators of ATLA and the writers of TLOK get no grace nor get to pass the blame to the studio for any writing issues.

  I sought out this video after feeling unsatisfied with the movie, and I was glad to find some validation for my feelings, along with a fantastic collection of ideas for how it could have been improved. The ideas were so good, and delivered with such excitement, that I almost felt like I got to re-watch the improved version of the movie in my head! Well done.

  I don&apos;t think the story needed such a massive structual overhaul as you&apos;re describing. I think the plot beats we got could work just fine if they had been given enough time to breathe and characters like the denied got more development. Mostly I blame the runtime. They had to cram a lot into just 85 minutes, and much of that was spent on the beautiful action sequences. We just didn&apos;t get enough of the personal character moments that make us really care. If they&apos;d gotten closer to 140 minutes to tell the story, and at least 35 of those extra 55 minutes were devoted to character moments, especially with the Denied and having some time for tension to build between Tagah&apos;s betrayal and the final fight, the pacing would have been better, and that was my biggest gripe about the movie, that it felt rushed. That, and some of the jokes just fell flat, especially using Korra-style spirit world gags instead of giving the spirit world the reverence and gravitas the original series did.

  I don&apos;t necessarily &apos;love&apos; all your suggested rewrites, but I do like how you demonstrated that simply rearranging scene orders and changing single lines can make massive differences to help things stay coherent and impactful. Just as another example, you can still have almost the same Aang and Tagah bonding sequence but placed after your proposed changes to the storm scene when they are now stuck together. <br><br>Personally, I would just remove the staff entirely from the film since the magic macguffin doesn&apos;t fit into established lore, the lion turtle skeletons were already there as the in universe source of bending, surely you can make it easy to enter the spirit world and have mostly the same plot with the spirit of Sonam herself being the macguffin sealed away somehow or something directly with the lion turtles. The spirit world is also notable for being a place you cannot bend, an opportunity to double down on the themes of benders vs nonbenders perhaps? <br><br>I know there was limited runtime, but there is a fine story here somewhere, maybe even a great one and I&apos;m with you in the belief that it wouldn&apos;t have taken much to fix it, but once scenes are animated and VAs record lines, its already sometimes years past the point that anything could have been done. Cutting the Denied entirely probably would have made the most sense to devote more time to the actual plot, but given that their concept is more interesting, albiet lower stakes, I think the political drama of Benders vs Nonbenders with Aang recognizing that benders are inherently a dangerous force, particularly to those who can&apos;t defend themselves to reflect his own trauma makes for a better &quot;Avatar&quot; movie. A different movie entirely, but it needed to happen way back in the writers room, you can&apos;t fix that with stunning animation.

  Absolutely deserved being the top Paramount+ viewership ... at the same time, yeah you needed more writers.
